COLDSTREAM - The popular Kal Beach pier on Kalamalka Lake in Coldstream could re-open later this year after a series of repairs.
The end-section of the Rotary Pier was closed in June 2018 due to safety concerns arising from flood damage in 2017.
The District of Coldstream currently owns the dock, but the Regional District of North Okanagan owned it when it was damaged.
The regional district has been waiting on its insurance companies to assess the damage and begin repairs. According to Mike Fox, general manager of community services for the regional district, a contractor has been hired and work on the dock is expected to begin in February.
The insurance money will allow it to be restored to its original condition without using public dollars.
"It won't cost taxpayers a thing," Fox said.
Fox said the $100,000 worth of repairs should be finished by the end of April.
