ICBC is expanding its knowledge test system on Monday, June 1, so more drivers can book appointments to write exams in an effort to get their learner’s licence.

But those who already have those licences can’t take the road test needed to move to the next stage, get an N to stick on their car and drive without adult supervision.

“ICBC is putting extensive effort into a plan to safely resume road testing, which includes engaging with staff and WorkSafeBC on the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, which we are working actively to source,” states a news release from ICBC.

“There is no timeline yet for resumption but progress is being made and ICBC will keep customers informed."

The expanded ICBC program will allow for more knowledge tests to be written at ICBC locations throughout the province by appointment only by calling 1-800-950-1498.

Test takers have to get at least 40 of 50 questions right to qualify for the learner’s permit. It takes a year to qualify for a road test.
