People have rallied for trans rights outside of Kelowna’s city hall today, Oct. 15.

About 250 people have gathered in response to the “1 Million March 4 Children” rally on Sept 20.

The event was organized by Kelowna Pride and Rebellious Unicorn Events.

“On September 20th, the heart of our city was witness to a historic level of hatred and intimidation, as many anti-trans and anti-2SLGBTQIA+ protestors gathered in Stuart Park to target our communities and our rights - our rights to education, to healthcare, to dignity, and to freedom from violence and discrimination. It has been a bruising and deeply unsettling moment for so many of us,” Kelowna Pride stated on their website page about today’s event.

The “1 Million March 4 Children” was “advocating for the elimination of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) curriculum, pronouns, gender ideology and mixed bathrooms in schools,” according to the group’s website.

Today’s rally is scheduled to include a march to the waterfront, chalk art displays, and speeches supporting the trans community, ending around 1:30p.m.
