Huge increase in Vernon staff making more than $100K

The number of staff at the City of Vernon making more than $100,000 a year has increased by more than 50 per cent in the last five years.

Currently, 70 members of staff at the city make $100,000 or more, up 55 per cent compared to 2017, when 45 staffers took home six-figure salaries.

The number of staff making more than $75,000 has also increased by 42 per cent in the last five years.

Currently, almost one-third of city staff, 29 per cent, make more than $75,000 a year. The city has 548 full and part-time staff on its payroll.

The total payroll for the City of Vernon in 2021 sat at $27,055,663, plus $256,019 in expenses.

At the top of the list for income earners was the city's chief administrative officer Will Pearce at $242,063 followed by director of recreation services Doug Ross at $175,702, director of human resources Raeleen Manjak at $167,874, director of community infrastructure and development Kim Flick at $167,468, and director financial services Debra Law at $158,131.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services fire chief David Lind takes home $187,452.

Remuneration for Vernon Mayor and council is significantly lower than staff with first-term councillors taking home $34,766 and second-term councillors $35,026. The mayor took home $96,292 up from $93,394 in 2020.

The politicians kept their expenses low in 2021 with the mayor claiming $1,076, and councillors Scott Anderson and Akbal Mund $406 and $300 respectively. The late Dalvir Nahal claimed just $25 in expenses, with the remaining councillors not claiming a penny.
