How's booze on the beach going? The City of Penticton wants to hear about it

FILE PHOTO- The City of Penticton is providing residents with an opportunity to provide feedback on the new pilot project allowing alcohol consumption on Okanagan Lake beaches east of Power Street.

Penticton residents wishing to comment on the recent city initiative to allow alcohol consumption on Okanagan Lake beach will have ample opportunity to do so while the pilot program operates.

The project began yesterday, June, 3 after council approved the bylaw amendments at Tuesday’s regular meeting, June 2.

Adults of legal age will be allowed to consume alcohol on Okanagan Lake Beach between the hours of noon, and 8 p.m. at Marina Way Park, Okanagan Beach east of Power Street, Okanagan Lake Park and Rotary Park.

The project runs until July 4, after which council will be presented with findings to review at the July 7 meeting.

The city is also gathering feedback from the community, starting June 10. A feedback form can be accessed at shapeyourcity.com and paper copies can be obtained at city hall and deposited in the drop box when completed.

"We are waiting to formally gather feedback from the community until after the pilot project has gotten underway,” City Engagement Strategist, JoAnne Kleb says.

“Our hope is that people will take the time to visit a few of the locations during the pilot project before they form their opinion about the changes,” she says.
