KELOWNA - Indoor raves are so 90s.
In the hot summer months, partiers want to be outside and enjoy themselves away from cramped clubs. But how can you capture the thumping music and bright lights of a raging rave party outside? One answer: Bikes.
Kelowna will witness a bike rave this weekend as dozens of participants will be pedalling down the shoreline blasting rocking tunes and showing off a dazzling array of colours.
How does one rave on a bike? Riders deck out their bikes in colourful patterns to stand out in the night, similar to the bright hues in club raves and attach speakers to their rides. A playlist is provided by the organizers for participants to download onto their phones. Bikers link their phones with speakers and they all hit play at the same time to sync up. It's an orchestra of pounding beats.
The Kelowna bike rave will be held tomorrow and it takes on a special meaning this year. The event is dedicated to Braeden Christopher Souter, better known as DJ Dr Brae, who died in June. The rave's theme colours are black and gold in memory of Souter. The playlist for the event will also feature Souter's music.
The bike rave will meet up at 8 p.m. at Tugboat Beach tomorrow, July 6, before officially starting at 9 p.m. The rave will wind through Mushroom Beach, Kinsmen Park and Gyro Beach before finishing up back at Tugboat Beach at 11 p.m.
