House being renovated catches fire in Kelowna

FILE PHOTO

No residents were at risk from a house fire in the Rutland neighbourhood of Kelowna last night, Feb. 8.

Kelowna fire department were called to the blaze in the 1200 block of Belgo Road at about 9 p.m.

“First arriving crews reported heavy brown smoke coming out of the eaves of the home on all sides,” a Kelowna Fire Department news release says. “The home owner stated the house was under renovation and that there was nothing and no one inside.”

Since it appeared that the roof structure was failing, firefighters did not enter the building, battling the blaze from the outside only.

The news release does not say how much damage the fire caused to the house nor what the cause might have been.

Three fire engines, 17 firefighters along with other equipment and emergency personnel responded to the fire.
