Hot, dry weather arrives just in time for weekend in Kamloops, Okanagan

It should be a good weekend to head to a beach with the forecast calling for lots of sunshine and above normal temperatures for this time of year.

It's going to be perfect beach weather  in the Okanagan and Kamloops this weekend with a system of high pressure making its way into the B.C. Interior.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says he was happy to see the Central and North Okanagan pick up between eight and 13 millimetres of rain over the past couple of days.

“Kamloops got just a millimetre each day, but the city received high amounts over the weekend. Vernon and Kelowna got most of the precipitation, but they needed it the most, too,” Lundquist says. Penticton reported only trace amounts of rain over the past two days.

The upcoming hot, dry weather isn't expected to break any records.

"People are going to be happy at the beach, but there are continuing concerns about wildfire threat and things drying out. I'm thankful we got that bit of rain but we need more, and it's not coming, at least not right away," Lundquist says.

Today, June 16, should be sunny with a high of 26 Celsius in Kamloops, while the Okanagan basks in sunshine and temperatures around 25 C.

It's expected to be mainly sunny and 28 C in Kamloops tomorrow, sunny and 27 C in the Okanagan.

Friday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 27 C in Kamloops. Okanagan cities can expect to see a mix of sun and cloud along with highs around 29 C.

The weekend looks mostly sunny with highs of 25 C on Saturday and a high of 30 C on Sunday in Kamloops.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton should see lots of sunshine with a high of 27 C on Saturday and 29 C on Sunday.

Normal highs and lows for Kamloops at this time of year are 25 C and 12 C, while Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton normally get daily highs of 24 C and lows of 10 C.
