A woman has been arrested and charged after a home invasion ended in a stabbing in Kelowna.
Kelowna RCMP responded to a home invasion in the 1300-block of Kelglen Crescent around 1:15 p.m. on Sept. 7, according to a press release from police.
A female suspect got into the house and stabbed a 28-year-old woman several times. The suspect fled after she was confronted by some other people who were in the house.
The stabbing victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but her condition is currently stable in the hospital’s care.
Officers found a woman who matched the suspect’s description on Richter Street at Clement Avenue around 3 p.m. that day.
The suspect, 24-year-old Morgan Marie Smith, was arrested without incident.
Smith is still in custody facing an aggravated assault charge. She is set to appear in court in Kelowna tomorrow, Sept. 10.
“The victim and her family are receiving the necessary support services as she recovers from her injuries,” Kelowna RCMP Cpl. Michael Gauthier said in the release. “We applaud both our officers and medical personnel for their life-saving work. Our investigators continue to work tirelessly to prepare the necessary information for court tomorrow.”
