Hockey Day in Canada celebrations set to kick off in Kamloops tonight

KAMLOOPS - Celebrations for Scotia Bank's Hockey Day in Canada event are set to begin in Kamloops today, Feb. 3 with a list of community events set for the next four days.

The event begins at 7:45 p.m. with a free event at Sun Peaks which will include an outdoor ceremony and concert. Don Cherry and Ron MacLean will be in attendance along with players Trevor Linden, Lanny McDonald, Darcy Tucker, Mark Napier, Wendel Clark, Cassie Campbell-Pascall and others.

Tomorrow, Feb. 4, the Stanley Cup will pay a visit to Bert Edwards Science and Technology and A.E. Perry elementary schools and meet some famous NHLers.

From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a ticketed celebrity luncheon at the Tournament Capital Centre. From 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wendel Clark, Mark Recchi and Corey Hirsch will be hosting on-ice hockey clinics at McArthur Island Sports Centre.

That evening, the WHL’s 50th Season Pro Am Alumni game featuring teams made up of NHL and WHL alumni will take place at the Sandman Centre. Lanny McDonald, Mark Recchi, Darcy Tucker, Wendel Clark, Mark Napier, Kirk McLean and others are expected to play.

On Friday, Feb. 5, the public is invited to have breakfast with the Stanley Cup at the Tournament Capital Centre.

Following breakfast, the cup will travel to Lloyd George Elementary School and the Sk’elep School of Excellence. From 2:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be another on-ice hockey clinic hosted by Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Lanny McDonald, Mark Napier, Darcy Tucker and Wendel Clark at McArthur Island Sports Centre.

From 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Scotiabank will present The Music of Hockey Concert hosted by Ron MacLean at the Sandman Centre. NHL alumni, hockey personalities and the Stanley Cup are expected to be at the show.

On the final day of the event, Saturday Feb. 6, on and off-ice clinics led by NHL alumni and Olympian Meghan Agosta are expected from 7:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Hockey Day in Canada Outdoor Festival will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sandman Centre and will feature photos with the Stanley and Memorial cups, live music, ball hockey, NHL broadcasts and more. Ron MacLean, Don Cherry, Lanny McDonald, Darcy Tucker, Mark Napier and Kirk McLean will be in attendance.
