Russian forward Maxim Shalunov suspended for a game at world junior championship

UFA, Russia - Russian forward Maxim Shalunov has been suspended for a game at the world junior hockey championship.

The Chicago Blackhawks draft pick cross-checked Slovakia's defenceman Tomas Nechala during a game Wednesday.

Nechala suffered a facial laceration requiring medical treatment.

Shalunov received a double-minor penalty on the play, but the incident was later reviewed by the International Ice Hockey Federation's disciplinary committee.

Shalunov will sit out Friday's game against the United States.
