QMJHL Roundup: League-leading Wildcats beat Olympiques 4-2 for ninth straight win

GATINEAU, Que. - The Moncton Wildcats topped the Gatineau Olympiques 4-2 for their ninth consecutive win Thursday in the Quebec Maritimes Hockey League.

Alex Mercier and Maxime Côté each had a goal and an assist while Vincent Collard and Markus Vidicek also scored for league-leading Moncton (30-5-2) at Centre Slush Puppie.

Wildcats netminder Mathis Rousseau stopped 19 shots.

Nicholas Petrut — with his first of the season — and Lukas Kral replied for Gatineau (9-21-8). Olympiques goaltender Nathan St-Pierre made 30 saves.

Moncton jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the second period with goals from Côté, Vidicek and Mercier. Vidicek and Mercier both reached 19 goals on the season.

CHARLOTTETOWN — Ross Campbell scored at 3:03 in overtime as the Charlottetown Islanders edged the Cape Breton Eagles.

Antoine Fontaine, Liam Kilfoil and Quinn Kennedy replied for Halifax (11-21-5). Mooseheads netminder Jacob Steinman kicked out 41 of 45 shots.

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Samuel Meloche earned a 24-save shutout as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies blanked the Sherbrooke Phoenix.

Thomas Verdon and Rémi Gélinas both scored twice for Rouyn-Noranda (21-9-7).

Kyan Labbé stopped 31 of 34 shots for Sherbrooke (21-12-5).

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. — Jules Boilard scored twice, and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar topped the Victoriaville Tigres.

Aiden Kirkwood, Samuel Brunet, Samuel Boisvert and Shawn Pearson also scored for Baie-Comeau (20-14-3). Drakkar netminder Lucas Beckman kicked out 18 of 19 shots.

Alexis Bourque replied for Victoriaville (11-23-4). Tigres goaltender Gabriel D'Aigle stopped 24 of 30 shots.
