QMJHL roundup: Gill nets late winner for Wildcats in 3-1 win over Mooseheads

HALIFAX - Dyllan Gill's goal at 17:46 of the third period snapped a 1-1 deadlock and lifted the visiting Moncton Wildcats to a 3-1 win over the Halifax Mooseheads in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action on Monday at Scotiabank Centre.

Vincent Collard and Markus Vidicek (empty-netter) also scored for the Maritimes Division-leading Wildcats (41-9-2-0), who outshot the hosts 29-17.

Shawn Carrier scored for the Mooseheads (17-29-6-1), who led 1-0 after the first period but were tied 1-1 heading into the third. Netminder Jacob Steinman stopped 26 shots for the hosts.

Both teams went 1-for-4 on the power play.

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Tyson Goguen's short-handed goal at 1:15 of the third period stood up as the winner as the visiting Acadie-Bathurt Titan knocked off the Charlottetown Islanders 4-2.

Mavrick Brunet, Alexandre Lallier and Dawson Sharkey also scored for the Titan (27-23-1-1), who outshot the hosts 32-24.

Owen Conrad and Anthony Flanagan scored for the Islanders (26-23-2-1), who were tied 1-1 after the first period but trailed 2-1 heading into the third.

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Jacob Newcombe scored twice and added an assist as the visiting Cape Breton Eagles beat the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-2.

Olivier Groulx and Ben Cross scored for the Sea Dogs (19-33-0-0), who trailed 2-0 after the first period and 3-0 heading into the third.
