NEW YORK, N.Y. - Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves as the New York Rangers staved off elimination with a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup final.

Benoit Pouliot and Martin St. Louis each scored for the Rangers, who still trail the Kings 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Pouliot opened the scoring 7:25 into the first period on a tip-in, and St. Louis put the Rangers up by two at 6:27 of the second.

But two minutes later a turnover by Rangers defenceman Dan Girardi led to a breakaway for Kings captain Dustin Brown, who finished with a slick deke to score on Lundqvist.

The Kings dominated in the third period but couldn't beat Lundqvist despite outshooting New York 15-1.

Game 5 is Friday in Los Angeles.
