LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Ottawa Senators are locking up star defenceman Erik Karlsson to a long-term deal.

The NHL team says the two sides have agreed to terms on a seven-year contract extension.

The Senators made the announcement today on their Twitter account.

Karlsson led all NHL blue-liners last season with 78 points.

The 22-year-old Swede had 19 goals and 59 assists and was an all-star for the second year in a row.

Karlsson was drafted by Ottawa with the 15th overall selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
