LOS ANGELES, Calif. - A celebration 45 years in the making ended in a blizzard of silver-and-black confetti when the Los Angeles Kings showed off the Stanley Cup.

The Kings rode buses and flatbed trucks in a parade through downtown Los Angeles on Thursday to celebrate their first NHL championship.

Captain Dustin Brown and playoff MVP Jonathan Quick finished by raising the Cup above their heads for thousands of cheering fans outside Staples Center, where the Kings completed their 16-4 rampage through the post-season on Monday night by eliminating the New Jersey Devils.

The Kings also planned a post-parade rally inside their arena before splitting up for the summer.

Los Angeles is the first No. 8 seed to win the Stanley Cup. Only one modern NHL team did it in fewer games.
