Brodeur has signed a new two-year contract to remain with the New Jersey Devils. Pat Brisson, Brodeur's Los Angeles-based agent, confirmed the deal Monday morning in an email to The Associated Press. NEWARK, N.J. - Martin Brodeur is staying put.

The veteran goaltender agreed to a US$9-million, two-year contract with the New Jersey Devils on Monday after briefly testing the NHL's free-agent market.

Brodeur had said all along that his preference was to remain in New Jersey, but he hired agent Pat Brisson late last week when it started to look like that might not be possible.

The 40-year-old owns most of the NHL's significant goaltending records, including most wins (656) and shutouts (119).

The three-time Stanley Cup champion is also coming off a season where he led the Devils back to the championship series, where they were beaten in six games by Los Angeles.

In 1,191 career appearances with New Jersey, Brodeur has a .913 save percentage and 2.23 goals-against average.
