HIT AND RUN: Kamloops RCMP say investigation is far from over

Jennifer Gatey.

KAMLOOPS - It's been just over a month since 16-year-old Jennifer Gatey was hit and killed by a vehicle near her Aberdeen home and no arrests have been made.

Kamloops RCMP suspected a dark-coloured Jeep was connected to the hit and run, and three days after the incident they began investigating a black Jeep found in the Dufferin area.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the investigation into that vehicle is far from over.

"The investigation has definitely not wrapped up," Shelkie said. "It is ongoing daily and we are still accepting tips from the public."

Shelkie says because of the ongoing investigation, she cannot confirm whether any other vehicles are being investigated, but says no one has been arrested or taken into custody.

She also can't confirm when the forensic investigation of the Jeep will wrap up. iNFOnews.ca tried to obtain a copy of the search warrant for the vehicle but it has been sealed.

Gatey was killed after leaving her Aberdeen home on the evening of Nov. 4, just hours before her 17th birthday. She was walking toward the bus stop on Pacific Way near Abbeyglen Way when a vehicle struck her.

Her father, Cameron Gatey, says she was only about 100 feet away from her backyard, but her parents had no idea it had happened until they received a knock on the door from police.

Kamloops RCMP is asking anyone who has information in connection to the hit and run investigation to speak to police. You can call the detachment at 250-828-3000.

This Jeep is currently being investigated by Kamloops RCMP. It's not yet known if this vehicle was involved in the Nov. 4 hit and run.
