The Kaleden waterfront is a busy place this morning as a movie crew has descended on the community.
Producer Chester Sit says the crew is in Kaleden for the day shooting scenes from the upcoming movie Chained a psychological crime thriller that will air on Superchannel and Hollywood Suites next year.
Following today’s work in Kaleden, the crew will return to Kelowna to finish the bulk of production.
Chained is the story of an abused and bullied 13-year-old and the friendship he forges with Jim, a criminal he discovers chained inside an abandoned warehouse. A violent betrayal between the duo turns the abused into the abuser, and as consequences and victims of Jim’s crimes close in, Taylor finds himself in over his head.
Chained stars Aleks Paunovic (Van Helsing, Snowpiercer) and Marion Kazadi (Child’s Play, Ghostbusters 2020), as well as Canadian Screen Award-winning actor Adrian Holmes.
Producer Rachelle Chartrand calls the number of local actors, set decorators and key movie-making staff working on the movie “phenomenal."
“Pivotal team members and actors are locally based,” Chartrand said in a media release. “We are thrilled to have this immensely talented trio on board to help tell this powerful, provocative story."
The movie will be shooting scenes around Okanagan College in Kelowna and other locations until Dec. 22.
Sit’s most recent work includes “The China Clipper - The Larry Kwong Story,” which is a documentary about the first Chinese player in the NHL.
“We are happy to be here, the crews and locations are great,” Sit said while setting up for production in the old Kaleden Hotel shell this morning.
The film has already garnered numerous accolades and has secured broadcast deals. It was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting, which is put on by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
