Western Canada Theatre presents the humour and heartache of Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth at the Pavilion Theatre from May 4 to 13.

Written by celebrated Ojibway playwright Drew Hayden Taylor, this is the moving and surprisingly funny story of two sisters finding a way to each other.

Janice (Dakota Hebert), adopted as a baby by a white family, is now a big city lawyer. Asked by her birth sister, Barb (Joelle Peters), to return to the reserve for their mother’s funeral, Janice refuses, afraid of opening old wounds. With Barb’s boyfriend Rodney, (Aren Okemaysim) and his brother Tonto (Taran Kootenhayoo), Barb comes up with a plan. If nothing else will bring Janice back, will the promise of meeting Amelia Earhart do so? Once home, Janice must find a place where the culture of her past can feed the truth of her present.

Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth brings back Lisa C. Ravensbergen (previously seen in The Ecstasy of Rita Joe) to WCT, this time as Director. Also returning to WCT are Jung-Hye Kim (Set Designer) and Doug Perry (Sound Designer). We welcome Vanessa Imeson (Costume Designer) and Rebecca Picherack (Lighting Designer) to their WCT debuts. Our team is rounded out by Christine Leroux (Stage Manager) and Leigh Robinson (Apprentice Stage Manager).

Featuring: Dakota Hebert (Janice), Taran Kootenhayoo (Tonto), Joelle Peters (Barb), and Aren Okemaysim (Rodney).

Creative Team: Lisa C. Ravensbergen (Director), Heather Cant (Associate Director), Jung-Hye Kim (Set Designer), Vanessa Imeson (Costume Designer), Rebecca Picherack (Lighting Designer), Doug Perry (Sound Designer), Christine Leroux (Stage Manager), and Leigh Robinson (Apprentice Stage Manager).
