Highway maple trees relocate to new home

On Oct. 24, the City of Kelowna will remove five large maple trees at the corner of Highway 97 and Sexsmith Rd., just behind the ‘Welcome to Kelowna’ sign. The trees are being removed as a preservation measure as the highway expansion project continues.
Instead of cutting down the five maples, the City is protecting the trees by relocating them to Rutland Centennial Park, adjacent to the children’s playground. This will provide additional shade for park users and add to the esthetic value of the park. The trees will be uprooted on Oct. 24 and settled into their new home by Oct. 28.
There will be technical equipment in the area on Oct. 24, however the City does not expect any disruptions in traffic while the trees are being removed.
