Motorists are being advised of a heavy snowfall warning and avalanche removal work along highways in the B.C. Interior.

Drivers using Highway 3 today, Jan. 8, were told to expect 20 to 30 centimetres of snow between Hope and Princeton, a distance of 127 kilometres, according to Drive B.C.

The advisory is a heavy snowfall warning, drivers are asked to avoid non-essential travel and expect closures on short notice and delays.

That same stretch of highway was closed in both directions for avalanche deposit removal but has since reopened.

Tomorrow, also on Highway 3, avalanche debris cleanup will take place along 18 km of the Kootenay Pass. Work will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 3 p.m.

On Highway 1 from Sicamous to Field – a distance of 273 km – a heavy snowfall warning is in effect. Drive cautiously, be prepared for rapidly changing conditions and consider alternate travel plans, Drive B.C. advised travellers.

Highway 5 was closed yesterday, Jan. 7 due to freezing rain and a vehicle accident but has since reopened to commercial traffic.

Highway 99 is open to regular travellers in vehicles up to 14,500 kg LGVW between Pemberton and Lillooet but DriveB.C. is warning of winter weather conditions and that the highway could close at any time.
