Highlights of Kelowna City Council meeting

The city is working to make sure gridlock doesn't happen in downtown Kelowna this summer.

Airport 2045 Master Plan

Council approved the Kelowna International Airport 2045 Master Plan and directed staff to bring forward the recommendations in the Plan for adoption into the Kelowna 2030 – Official Community Plan. Highlights of the Master Plan include future investments of $259 million, addressing noise exposure, land use and wildlife protection, airside infrastructure, terminal building construction, access roads and parking, and commercial land development.

Community Trends Report

Council received the 2016 Community Trends Report, titled Growth Investigated, for information. The report examines 2015 data and trends in four subject areas, including: Our People, Our Economy, Our Homes and Our Environment. Highlights include an increase of approximately 4,000 new residents in 2016, the median income increased to $67,340, and residential building permits issued topped 1,400 for the first time since 2008.

Gospel Mission Transitional Storage

Council supported a partnership between the City and the Gospel Mission to provide transportation of carts and personal belongings of persons who are homeless, or transitioning to obtain shelter, to a temporary City storage facility.
