Imagine Kelowna update

Kelowna Council heard the Imagine Kelowna draft community vision, the result of almost 4,000 residents’ contributions over the past year. The draft vision, values, principles and goals will be available for public comment through online and presentations/workshops with community groups in the new year. A final version will be presented for Council’s consideration in 2018.

Multi-family housing near Capri-Landmark

A proposal for a three-storey multi-family building on the corner of Pacific Avenue and Pasnak Street was considered by Council. Council gave first reading to the proposed rezoning and forwarded the project to an upcoming public hearing. The building includes 14 rental units varying in size from bachelor units to 2-bedroom units, with underground parking.

Solar panels

Council approved a development permit allowing FortisBC to build 720 solar panels next to its existing substation in the airport business park. Staff backed the project, saying it supports alternative energy sources.

New middle school in Upper Mission

Council issued a development permit for the new Canyon Falls Middle School on the corner of Steele Road and Frost Road in the Ponds neighbourhood. The three-storey building is expected to house 750 students when it opens in September 2019.

Inclusive washrooms

Council received a report that focused on how to improve inclusivity for 108 single-stall washroom facilities in City buildings, parks, stadiums and YLW. Staff are proposing new signage which focuses on the function of the washroom facility, rather than gender, and helps ensure that public spaces and workplaces are accessible and inclusive.
