High winds to complicate South Okanagan firefighting efforts? Pick your favourite forecast

Okanagan residents concerned with fire behaviour on the Christie Mountain wildfire have an opportunity to see which weather forecaster's predictions will be the most accurate over the next two days as a weather change takes place.

Okanagan residents are keeping a close eye on the weather over the next couple of days as changing conditions have their effect on wildfires such as the Christie Mountain wildfire burning near Penticton.

There may varying degrees of comfort in checking out the forecasts available for Penticton over the next couple of days, as the transitioning weather has as many different predictions as there are forecasts.

They're not usually this far apart, particularly on the important subject of wind tomorrow.

Here’s a look at what different weather media say will happen, weather-wise, in Penticton over the next two days:

Environment Canada

Today, mainly cloudy, 30 per cent chance of showers this morning, wind becoming north 20 km/h this afternoon, high 29 C, low 15 C.

On Friday, it should be mainly sunny, with increasing cloudiness in the morning and a 70 per cent chance of showers late in the afternoon.

A thunderstorm is also possible in the afternoon, with, wind south at 40 km/h gusting to 60 late in the morning. Friday’s high should reach 29 C, with a low of 11C.

Weather Network

Today, cloudy in the morning, partly sunny in the afternoon, with a high of 26 C and a low of 17 C.

Winds expected to be northwest at 11 km/h, gusting to 17.

On Friday, there is a 40 per cent chance of a shower with a high of 28 C and a low of 12 C.

Wind is expected from the south at 20 km/h gusting to 30.

Accuweather

Today in Penticton, Accuweather is calling for a high of 28 C and a low 14 C, with a stray shower in the morning.

Decreasing clouds are expected through the day with winds northeast at 11 km/h, gusting to 17.

There is a 47 per cent chance of showers, and a two per cent chance of thunderstorms

Friday, it’s expected to be partly sunny and comfortable, with a high of 27 C and a low of  12 C.

Winds should be southwest at 17 km/h gusting to 30, with an eight per cent chance of showers, and a three per cent chance of thunderstorms.
