Here’s why you don’t pass a snow plow on the right

We all know not to do it, but some of us obviously can't help themselves.

A B.C. highway maintenance contractor is appealing to the public after a snowplow was damaged by a motorist passing on the right.

"Well... its happened... one of our trucks plowing snow was hit after a motorist attempted to pass on the right-hand side," Aim Roads posted on social media.

Aim Roads provides maintenance on highway and roads in the Okanagan and Shuswap regions.

The road maintenance contractor said no one was hurt in the collision and its team managed to get the snowplow back on the road in two hours.

"This time we were extremely lucky this unit was repairable and able to be placed back out on the road," Aim Roads said. "During a major weather event like we were experiencing, having equipment go down due to careless driving even for a short period is unjustifiable."

Aim Roads didn't say what happened to the impatient driver, but any damage to their vehicle is sure to cost them a pretty penny.

"DO NOT PASS PLOW TRUCKS ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE," Aim Roads spells out in capitals on its social media post.

"Operators will pull over when it is safe to do so. Be patient and understand the crews are doing the best job they can while also ensuring the roads are safe and to Ministry specification," the post reads.
