Here's where you can ring in the New Year with fireworks in the Thompson-Okanagan

If your goal this New Year's Eve is to take in a fireworks display, you have some options depending where you live in the Thompson-Okanagan.

Your best bet is to check out one of the regions ski resorts where fireworks on New Year's Eve has become a tradition.

If driving to a ski resort is not part of your plans, Kelowna's New York New Year’s Eve celebration in Stuart Park downtown will have fireworks to welcome 2020, and a private event at the Penticton Lakeside Resort will have some pyrotechnics on Okanagan Lake.

From south to north, here’s where you can see fireworks this New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 2019.

BALDY MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT

Family events start at 2 p.m. at the South Okanagan ski resort near Oliver leading up to a torchlight parade at 8:15 p.m. followed by an early fireworks display at 9 p.m. The night culminates with the main fireworks display at midnight. This is a ticketed event.

PENTICTON LAKEFRONT RESORT

The hotel in Penticton will host a Carnivale New Year’s Eve Party for adults but it includes a midnight fireworks display over Okanagan Lake.

BIG WHITE SKI RESORT

Year-end celebrations at Big White Ski Resort near Kelowna start at 2 p.m. and culminate with two fireworks events. The first is at 8:15 p.m. in Happy Valley followed by the countdown to midnight and fireworks in the Village Centre.

NEW YORK NEW YEAR’S EVE, KELOWNA

This is a free family-friendly event centred around the Stuart Park outdoor skating rink in downtown Kelowna starting at 6 p.m. with the fireworks display at 9 p.m. (which is midnight in New York).

SILVERSTAR MOUNTAIN RESORT

Events start at 5 p.m. at SilverStar Ski Resort near Vernon leading up to a torchlight parade that begins at 7:45 p.m. Fireworks to follow the parade.

HARPER MOUNTAIN SKI AND SNOWSHOE

This hill is only 20 minutes from Kamloops and will do its fireworks show at 9:15 p.m.

SUN PEAKS RESORT

The fun starts at 6:30 p.m. at Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops leading up to a children’s glow stick parade at 7:45 p.m., a torchlight parade at 8 p.m. and fireworks immediately afterwards at 8:10 p.m.
