The weather is expected to get nasty this afternoon in the Thompson-Okanagan region.

The conditions are just right for the development of severe thunderstorms in the region including the Okanagan, Shuswap, South and North Thompson, and Nicola, according to a weather watch issued by Environment Canada today, June 26.

The weather office said the thunderstorms could produce strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain.

There’s also a risk for debris flows in areas damaged by wildfire in the past.

The heavy rain can cause flash floods and water pooling on streets and highways.
