There was a heavy police presence in the Valleyview area of Kamloops this afternoon after RCMP officers located two stolen vehicles in the area.

Kamloops resident Nathan Ritchie reported more than 13 RCMP vehicles were following a Subaru vehicle which he said appeared to be "fleeing from police" in the Valleyview area.

Kamloops RCMP confirmed in a media release at approximately 1:30 p.m. Dec. 30, an officer observed a stolen vehicle on Frontage Road in Valleyview near the McDonalds restaurant. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle which then rammed a police cruiser and drove off at speed.

While this was taking place an officer noticed another stolen vehicle in the same area. The officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle but the driver fled on foot. An RCMP K9 unit was brought in but failed to track down the driver.

The stolen vehicle that was spotted first was later found in the Barnhartvale area.

Police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or have any dash cam footage to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
