Heavily-armed RCMP officers called to incident in Barriere area

FILE PHOTO

Heavily-armed police officers have been called to an incident north of Kamloops this afternoon.

BC RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy said the Emergency Response Team was sent to the Barriere area around 1:30 p.m. today, Nov. 6.

What police were called to the area for isn't clear, as Cpl. Grandy said he won't be providing anymore details about the incident. He did say the public is not at risk.

There are multiple unconfirmed reports on social media about the incident including officers with guns drawn. Some posters say Highway 5 was closed on either side of Barriere, but Cpl. Grandy couldn't say whether not the route was open or closed.
