Kamloops can expect a brief taste of mid-summer heat with the mercury rising to 33 Celsius by Saturday.

The hot temperatures will be short-lived however, as a strong cold front moves into the region on Saturday night, May 30.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says there is going to be a big swing in temperature between Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures falling from the 30s to the upper teens.

“We’re predicting a high of 33 C in Kamloops on Saturday, but with early cloud from that approaching cold front that may not happen,” he says.

Lundquist says to expect late day thunderstorms Saturday, with showers and the daytime temperature of 17 C on Sunday.

Today in Kamloops, Environment Canada says to expect mainly cloudy conditions with a 30 per cent chance of afternoon showers. Winds will be east at 20 km/h gusting to 40 this morning, with a high of 24 C and a low of 9 C under partly cloudy skies tonight.

Friday should see a high of 30 C under a mix of sun and cloud. It should be a clear overnight with a low down to 15 C.

Saturday could see a high of 33 C under a mix of sun and cloud, but showers are expected Saturday night, along with a low of 17 C.

The showers are expected to continue on Sunday with a daytime high of 17 C. There is a 60 per cent chance of showers Sunday night with a low of 8 C.

Monday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 23 C and a low of 13 C.

Tuesday and Wednesday should be similar, with a mix of sun and cloud and highs both days of 24 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year are highs of 23 C and lows of 10 C.
