Heads up, there's a dust advisory in Vernon right now

FILE PHOTO

VERNON - A dust advisory was issued in Vernon today, and health officials say people with medical conditions should take some precautions.

The advisory was issued Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 31, due to high concentrations of coarse particles in the air, according to an alert from the Ministry of Environment.

People with chronic underlying medical conditions are being told to postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

The dusty conditions are expected to persist until there is a change in the weather.

You can reduce exposure by staying indoors and in air-conditioned places.
