VERNON - If the summer heat around the Okanagan is getting too much for you, but retreating inside isn't your idea of fun, Silver Star Mountain Resort is tempting potential visitors by pointing out temperatures at the summit are 10 degrees cooler than in the valley.

The mercury is expected to rise into the high 30s, maybe event 40 C in some areas of the Okanagan, this week and a heat warning has been issued.

"Temperatures will remain in the 20s for areas above 1,500 metres," Silver Star meteorologist Wesla Wong says in a media release.

Environment Canada says a strengthening ridge of high pressure is drawing hot air up from the western U.S. and that will push high temperatures into the mid-30s for the next few days with highs of 40 C possible on Thursday, before cooling off on Friday.
