UPDATE: Highway 97 in South Okanagan reopens after head-on collision

OKANAGAN FALLS - A head-on crash on Highway 97 in the South Okangan this morning has has sent several people to hospital.

Emergency crews were called to the two vehicle head-on collision south of Okanagan Falls at about 8:30 a.m. today, July 21. The highway was closed for over two hours, but has since reopened to single lane alternating traffic.

Okanagan Falls deputy fire chief Rob Oliver says a car and a pickup truck hit at the sharp corner on Highway 97 along Vaseux Lake.

The occupants had to be extricated from their vehicles, which were totalled in the collision. Everyone in the vehicles was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

Oliver says multiple ambulance and police personnel attended the scene, as well as Okanagan Falls and Oliver fire departments.

Highway 97 is closed in both directions south of the junction with Highway 3A, with no detour and no estimated time of opening. 

Oliver says the collision is the second this week along that stretch of highway.
