KELOWNA - Highway 97C was closed for several hours last night after a semi-tractor hauling hazardous material crashed.

RCMP say the semi-tractor trailer crashed around 7:45 p.m., Jan. 8, ending up in the centre median of the Connector east of Sunset Main. The trailer contained a hazardous material and police closed the highway in both directions while waiting for Ram Environmental Response Team arrive and inspect the trailer for damage.

Crews determined the load hadn’t been compromised and the highway was reopened early this morning, police say.

A crew will be retrieving the truck and trailer today, Jan. 9, during daylight hours.

If you witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact RCMP Central Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-980-5353.
