Penticton Search and Rescue search manager Kelvin Hall is pleased to welcome BC’s Adventure Smart outdoor adventure team to Penticton Sunday, Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the True Outdoors store at 106 - 290 Riverside Dr. in Penticton.

"We've had over 45 calls this past year with many of the requests to assist persons who have been injured or lost. Wintertime is critical time as we recognize that with below zero temperatures - getting to injured and lost persons quickly is a priority for us, so we want to see people take the time to be prepared," Hall says.

So to kick off the winter season our TEAM members will be assisting the Adventure Smart personnel who will be available to meet local outdoor enthusiasts to discuss trip planning and other important areas such as nutrition, dehydration, frostbite and hypothermia. AdventureSmart is Canada’s premier outdoor adventure prevention team that supports SAR prevention efforts throughout the Province.

AdventureSmart knows that Canada's fabulous winter wonderland brings snow enthusiasts out in droves each year. From snowshoeing, to skiing, to snowmobiling and backcountry adventures, the opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in the winter are endless. However before you seek out your thrills, be sure that you are well prepared for the potential dangers that come with playing in British Columbia’s snowy and icy environments.

Hall who is an AdventureSmart Facilitator as well as a SAR Manager encourages individuals and families to take a few minutes out on this Sunday to come out to meet the Team.

“Bring the kids and help them learn that some basic outdoor recreational safety practices will last a lifetime to helps make sure you all get the best out of outdoor fun this winter.”
