KAMLOOPS - A not-for-profit organization from the Lower Mainland has been working to expand it’s haircuts for the homeless program and is now ready to launch their first event later this month in Kamloops.

The Haircuts for Hope program which has been running in Langley for nearly four years and now Infinite Expansion Foundation is extending the program to Kamloops, according to the foundation’s founder and president, Augustino Duminuco.

The program offers free haircuts to those in need in the community.

“We are really excited to come to Kamloops and bring our program up there,” Duminuco says. “The community has been very supportive and we love it.”

The non-profit has partnered with PIT Stop which is an outreach program that works out of the Kamloops United Church to offer hot meals to marginalized community members every Sunday afternoon.

The first haircut event will take place on Oct. 16 at the Kamloops Alliance Church from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 200 Leigh Road.

There will be hairstylists from the Interior Academy of Hair Design and Esthetics and Manhandler Barber Shop volunteering their time for the event. Duminuco says he had several stylists reach out to him to offer to help.

“I could have had 20 (hairstylists) but that is too many so right now we have eight,” he says. “Five of them are coming from the school… so they are students so it’s a great way for them to practice, give back and see another side of life maybe they have never experienced before.”

For past hair cut events in Langley, Duminuco says they usually do anywhere between 30 to 50 haircuts.
