VERNON - A fire behind Kal Tire Place yesterday morning is considered suspicious.
Vernon Fire and Rescue Services responded to the grass fire at roughly 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20 at the rear of Kal Tire Place, according to Fire Captain Brent Bond.
Someone driving through the parking lot happened to notice the fire and called it in immediately, Bond says.
“The people who called it in had started putting it out, using their feet to stamp it out. It needed a little more than that,” Bond says.
Thanks to a quick response, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in short order.
“It’s definitely suspicious,” Bond says.
The Fire Department ruled out a cigarette or campfire as the cause and Bond says the matter was referred to the RCMP for investigation.
“There is a homeless camp nearby, but there was no one around at the time,” he says.
With extremely dry conditions throughout the province, Bond says any fire big or small is a concern.
