PENTICTON - The Okanagan Skaha Board of Education is breathing a collective sigh of relief this week after meeting criteria for a new education fund.
An application for funding from the Rural Education Enhancement Funds program was successful, the board announced yesterday, June 29.
As a result, the board says both West Bench and Trout Creek Elementary Schools have been approved for funding from the program.
The district has been funded in full and will receive $739,219 as a special purpose grant.
“We are so very pleased and excited that both of our applications were approved,” board Chair Linda Van Alphen says.
The board is expected to finalize their decision with respect to closure of both schools as well as acceptance of the funding, at a 3 p.m. meeting today, June 30, at the school board office.
