KAMLOOPS - A new B.C. winery is celebrating its grand opening this weekend, but it's not in typical wine country — it's in Kamloops.
Harper's Trail is the first estate winery in the area, located on the outskirts of the city near the South Thompson River.
A local couple — Ed and Vicki Collett — got the idea to start their own winery after travelling to wine regions throughout the country. With no winemaking experience, they worked with industry veterans for advice and consultation before setting up their 18-acre vineyard right in the Tournament Capital.
The name of the winery comes with a bit of history: the cattle drive trail of pioneer rancher Thaddeus Harper.
The grand opening will be held tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes wine tastings, snacks, door prizes, vineyard tours and music by Doc and the Disorderlies.
