Steve Rodgers started working under the store's founder, Gord Schmidt, almost 25 years ago. Nowadays, he is proud to be the owner of the store and the face of Gord's Appliances in Kamloops, but the original mission remains unchanged.

Gord's Appliances strives to provide quality products for every budget and back up those items with in-house repairs. According to Rodgers, that business mission directly impacts the products that they carry. It can be a challenge to bring in quality appliances that will last the test of time. Quality Appliances - With a Service Plan to Back Them Up

Because they service what they sell, Rodgers wants to sell dependable items that will last—and that they know can be repaired if needed. "When you know that your team will be repairing or servicing an appliance, it greatly influences the brands and models that you carry," Rodgers tells us.

With nearly three decades of experience, that mission statement is even more personal than ever. Many of the store's clients are now long-term friends—and even family.

"Occasionally, I will sell an appliance to a customer who I can remember meeting 20-odd years ago, back when I was a new employee doing deliveries," Rodgers chuckles. His day is constantly filled with familiar faces, making the work he does that much more rewarding. Gord's Appliances works very hard to gain that level of trust; after all, they are more than just a business—they are part of the Kamloops community.

Providing brand-name appliances that he believes in has become increasingly challenging over the years. "It is getting harder and harder to do," Rodgers says, telling us that quality-made products that can be affordably repaired are not as easily sourced. This is compounded by the fact that the team at Gord's works hard to find reliable models that suit every budget.

It's not impossible, though, Rodgers tells us. "Several brands make very dependable, less expensive appliances. They might not have all the bells and whistles, perhaps, but the reliability is excellent."

Providing Made-In-Canada Solutions

Gord's Appliances is proud to carry a line of comfortable, made-in-Canada mattresses, too. "We have a model for every budget, from an inexpensive mattress perfect for a student in a dorm room right up to the best quality king-size mattress."

Looking After the Community Sustainably

The best appliance brands (in the quality he demands) are no longer made in Canada, he shares. That hasn't stopped him from devising a made-in-Canada solution, though. Gord's Appliances is proud to offer an in-house solution to the endemic problem of appliances heading to the landfill: Rodgers and his team source nearly new, high-quality name-brand appliances and fully refurbish them, offering them for sale again with a complete parts and service warranty.

Helpful Advice In The Showroom

They have dedicated part of the 948 Tranquille Road showroom so customers can view their selection of reconditioned appliances. It is just one more way that Rodgers can honour the legacy mission of his predecessor—taking care of his community. While Gord's Appliances sells some of the best new appliances money can buy (the luxury line of Jenn Air products, for example), they are also happily accommodating the full spectrum of their valued customers and the showroom is a great place to compare.
