KAMLOOPS - The slopes are scheduled to open at Sun Peaks this weekend, the first ski hill to offer downhill in the Thompson-Okanagan this season.

Sun Peaks Resort had to delay opening day last week after warmer weather meant the snow wasn’t there for the first skiers and snowboarders of the season. The new opening date for downhill is Saturday, Nov. 26, according to a media release. Some Nordic ski trails could also open this weekend.

The resort says there is snow is in the forecast later this week and that, combined with cooler temperatures which will let them make snow, have them optimistic for a weekend limited, mid-mountain opening.

Vernon's Silver Star Mountain pushed back its alpine opening by a week. Originally scheduled to open Thursday, Nov. 24, the resort is now targeting a Dec. 2 opening.

Big White Ski Resort near Kelowna is scheduled to open on Dec. 3, along with Penticton's Apex Mountain Resort and Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

Baldy Mountain Resort near Oliver expects to be open Dec. 1, while Kicking Horse Mountain Resort near Golden is scheduled to open on Dec. 9.

If you're heading to the coast, Whistler-Blackcomb opens tomorrow, Nov. 23.
