KAMLOOPS - A group of local residents are getting their costumes ready for the city’s second Witch Walk next week, except this time the walk will have an enchanted forest theme.

Bonnie McLean and friends started the event last October as a fun experiment to express creativity.

“We were originally just going to do it for ourselves, but of course we put out posters and let people know on Facebook we were doing this,” McLean says, adding she was surprised at the number of people who showed up in costume last year.

“Around 50 to 60 people showed up, it was amazing.”

McLean, who is a dance teacher and an artist, was thrilled to see her project had perked the interests of many people.

“They were so excited, it was a wonderful feeling to see everyone,” McLean says. “We obviously hit some sort of core.”

The walk in October had a Halloween and zombie theme while the walk on Friday, April 13 will be inspired by spring and nature.

She encourages those who wish to join, to dress up as wizards, witches, warlocks and more. The walk is open to all ages and will include interactive entertainment. For those old enough it will end in celebration at the Rock'n Firkin Sports Pub.

In the future, McLean says she hopes to incorporate a fundraiser into the walk.

"We want to do something to help the community, so our next one will be a fundraiser towards a social program in Kamloops," she says.

Walkers will gather at Spirit Square at 6:30 p.m. on April 13 and head down Tranquille Road.
