TORONTO - Gateway Newstands is expanding its Canadian base significantly with the purchase of 34 urban stores across the country.
The seller is LS Travel Retail, which will continue to operate airport and transit locations that aren't included in the deal.
The urban stores have been operating under such banners as Great Canadian News, United Cigar Store and Maison de la Presse.
They will adopt the Gateway Newstands banner after the deal closes, which is expected to happen by May 14.
As a resuilt of the deal, Gateway will have 554 locations across North America, including 422 in Canada.
