BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Gymnast Emma Spence was selected as Canada's flag-bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

The 15-year-old from Cambridge, Ont., was nominated to lead a team of 72 Canadian athletes into Thursday's ceremony at the Youth Olympic Village in Buenos Aires.

Spence won bronze in women's vault, claiming Canada's first ever medal in artistic gymnastics at the Youth Olympic Games.

"I am beyond excited and honoured to be the flag-bearer for this amazing Canadian team which I have been proud to represent," Spencer said. "The Youth Olympic Games have been so exciting and fun, and this is the best way to end this experience."

Canada won a total of 11 medals (one gold, three silver, seven bronze) at the games.
