The President of The Vernon and District Funtastic Sports Society, Diana Williamson announces, on behalf of the grant committee, with Robert Murphy as lead, Brad Steel and Angie Clowrie as directors of Funtastic and our media partner Betty Selin, the recipients of our continuing community grant program for 2017.

Our mission is “Building a Better Community through Sport,” and we the Funtastic Sports Society proudly invited qualifying community groups to submit applications, they did and we received upwards of 16 applications with total requests of more than $80 thousand dollars in funding.

This year marks the 33rd year that Funtastic has contributed back to the community through its donations and grant program, since 1985 our donations have totalled more than $1.7M.

The purpose of the Funtastic Community Investment Grant is to provide financial support to non-profit sport, recreation, and community organizations of a sport nature serving the Greater Vernon region. Successful applicants will benefit from the Community Grant program with an emphasis on projects that will continue to support the growth of sport and recreation in the region. Funtastic is proud to be able to support local sports organizations through grants that cover such things as equipment and capital costs for sports related activities.

Last year, in 2016, the Funtastic Community Investment Grant program distributed $30,000 to 14 recipients in summer and winter sports encompassing sports field development, equipment purchases, sports programs and physically challenged support program development.

Of course, our Funtastic slo-pitch tournament and music festival showcase our community’s volunteer spirit.

We highlight Vernon’s exceptional weather, recreation areas, sports fields, and top notch accommodations.

This encourages participants to return each year to the benefit of local businesses. It is the #1 economic driver of the North Okanagan for the summer months and Canada’s largest Slow Pitch/music festival. The 2017 Funtastic Event is from June 30 to July 3. With the music festival running evenings of Friday, June 30, Saturday, July 1, and Sunday, July 2.

We will be announcing our music line up later this week. So stay tuned. Funtastic, in it’s 33rd year is bringing things back to the players and the music...”You asked for it...you got it!!” We are so excited for the 2017 event and to ring in our 33rd year with our slow pitch “A division” being a cash payout for ball, and tons of amazing local music to really amp up that music festival aspect of the event, FREE access to the event during the DAY with daily music and nightly headliner acts that start after 4 p.m.
