The newly acclaimed federal Liberal candidate for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding has already stepped down.
Kamloops lawyer and entrepreneur George Petel has decided to focus on work and family instead of politics.
Petel was chosen last weekend to represent the Liberals in the anticipated federal election.
Today, August 11, he made the announcement on social media of his decision to decline the position.
"Upon reflection I have decided not to run in the election," he wrote.
"It has been a lifelong dream to bring a small voice to Parliament for us Kamloopsians and Secwepemc and knowing that I'm going to outlive my Great Grandfather and namesake who made 98 years, I have another 50 years to accomplish this goal. For now I'm going to focus on work and family. Your support has been incredible. Thank you."
