KELOWNA – Local police were kept busy this morning with at least 18 motor vehicle accidents since 6 a.m.

RCMP are reminding the motoring public to drive cautiously and to avoid high traffic areas when possible. Police have identified Highway 33, Glenmore Road and Belgo Road as having a high number of accidents caused by poor road conditions.

More snow is predicted for Kelowna this afternoon but clear weather is expected for Friday and Saturday. There is a chance for more snow overnight Saturday with a possibility of rain on Sunday.

RCMP recommend drivers plan ahead and give themselves extra time to get to their destination, reduce speed and increase distance between your car and the vehicle in front, according to a media release from Const. Lesley Smith.

She also recommends you ensure your vehicle has adequate winter tires, wiper blades, topped up wiper fluid reservoir and an emergency kit with blankets, first aid, shovel, jumper cables.
