THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - Freedom Mobile announced they're branching out and opening up in the Interior.

A Freedom Mobile spokesperson told iNFOnews.ca the company will be expanding its coverage to Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton later this summer.

"At Freedom Mobile, we are committed to giving more Canadians access to affordable wireless plans and an abundance of data with no strings or hidden fees attached," a Freedom Mobile spokesperson said.

Freedom Mobile launched its 10 GB of data for $50 with no penalties for data overages in October 2017, an offer the three big telecoms have only recently begun to match. Although there are no fees for going over an allowed overage the speed of data is dramatically reduced once a customer goes over the maximum.

Freedom Mobile currently has unlimited talk and text with 8 GB of data for $50 a month.

Freedom Mobile, who is owned Shaw Communications Inc, came into being in 2016 after Shaw purchased Wind Mobile. Currently, they only have coverage in B.C. in the Lower Mainland and Victoria but are set to expand to the Interior in the next few months as well as Prince George, Courtenay-Comox and Cranbrook. The company have also expanded into markets in Alberta and Ontario.

"As we expand into more communities, we continue to live up to our commitment to disrupt the marketplace and introduce true wireless competition that gives Canadians more for their hard-earned dollar," Freedom Mobile said in an earlier media release.
