KAMLOOPS - If you’re looking for something to do tonight, grab some cozy gear and head down to Riverside Park for a free movie screening.

How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World will be shown at 7 p.m. tonight. Entry is by donation, with all proceeds going towards the Canadian Mental Health Association Kamloops branch. The event is put on by Interior Savings, who have hosted various movie nights across the Thompson and Okanagan regions for over ten years as a part of their Moonlight Movie Night tour.

Sue Manzuik, the community engagement specialist with Interior Savings, says the screenings have brought in nearly $145,000 for local charities since 2008. She says that the charities are selected annually, with a focus on youth programs and mental health services.

"Okanagan Boys and Girls Club was the recipient in the Okanagan because they have locations in each of our communities,” Manzuik says. “In the Thompson, it ranges. Everything from Chase minor hockey, to the (Canadian Mental Health Association) in Kamloops, Raft Mountain Skating Club in Clearwater, Barrier Smoke Eaters (Firefighters Association), and Lillooet district minor hockey.”

Manzuik notes that although the movie admission is free, she recommends that individuals bring a $3 donation, and suggests families give $10. In addition to the donations, funds will be raised through the sale of candy, popcorn, and drinks at an independent concession stand.

“Be prepared as the temperatures will get a little bit cooler as the sun goes down, so blankets and pillows and warm clothing are certainly encouraged. Bring stuff to make yourself as comfortable as possible,” Manzuik says.
